I have an issue with the n/s rear of my e53 single axle air suspension going down over a period of time, when I checked on a diagnostic it comes up with some stupid codes that probably only make sense to the dealer, however if I check the voltage at each sensor with the launch it tells me that the rear right sensor has 4.41 and the rear left only has 0.91, do you think this would indicate a faulty sensor or should I look elsewhere for the fault? Also are the sides interchangeable as in left to right and any recommendations as to where to buy the sensor at all?

The level sensors are a potentiometer ie a variable resistor, so if one corner is lower than the other, it will give a different reading for sure.

Is the suspension sag unpredictable, or does it ALWAYS sage over the same time frame ?

Recently hit a pot hole and this caused one rear corner to go high giving the car a weird diagonal stance. No leaks, the compressor working normally, dash warning on, so gave in and took it to my indie, although I suspected that the sensor was damaged.

So it proved. I was surprised to see the extent of corrosion on the ball joints on the sensor arm and one was so loose it was never going to give an accurate reading. As for the sensor itself, I cut this open, and found that although it operated ok, there is a seal around the operating pin that had started to allow water past. It looked fine on the outside.

The sensor arms are crappy for sure...
maybe the shock from the.pot hole finished the sensor off.
the electical connection some times causes an irregular ride height where they are are not silicone sprayed & ice/water creeps in and effects the readings.

Is she working ok now ??
