PDC sensors?....whats happening????

I inherited my 2006 3.0d fully loaded facelift X5 a few weeks ago.
One of the niggles was that the PDC sensors weren't working.
Got the usual long beep and flashing light.
Turns out that one of the centre sensors at the back, and the front nearside corner sensor was kaput.
So I looked on here and saw the back one was a doddle to change, the front one....all the car had to be dismantled.
I also read if I bought a Scanner 1.4.0. I could replace the back 'en and disable the front ones to get the system usable till we get better weather to half strip the car.
Somehow on ebay I got distracted from the twenty quid scanner and bought a setup for thirty odd quid from BCables on ebay..absolute rubbish, don't work, demo software....wasted my money.
So with my ear to the ground I listened to the sensors to identify the faulty ones.
I changed the back o0ne and thought I'd changed the front one later as I now didn't have the option to disable them.
Astonishingly. the system now works with 7 sensors !¬!!!!!
The back ones work fine, the front 3 good ones work !!
I'm please with this outcome obviously but should this happen????
Should the system work on 7 sensors just omitting the faulty one?
I'm not complaining just confused !!!!
