Led tail lights

Post by Hagar66 » Sat May 21, 2016 10:47 pm

Ordered myself a pair of rear led tail lights and was wondering to the guys that have them on there car, did you change the indicator bulbs to led or just kept your normal bulbs in and if you did, which ones did you use?

I've left the supplied indicator globes in.
You can just see the orange through in sunlight but mostly not noticeable because they are tinted/smoked.

I've had thoughts to put in the stock silver ones or go with LEDs but haven't got around to it.
Let me know how you get on.

Just sent this thread, where abouts did you find the LED lights, and what X5 do you have?

I have a 2006 3.0D and I bought my lights from here,

it says for 98-02 models but they do fit the facelift model

Very nice! Easy enough to fit?

I'm sure I read another thread where it was easy to fit physically, but the electrics were a little more tricky, not plug and play. Something to do with putting resistors in place.

They are plug and play but your right, you will need to fit capacitors as the lights are a bit dim with a slight flicker in them. But saying that, the lights are easy to fit and so are the capacitors, you just need some scotch clips and just attach them to the loom, trust me, if i can do it, so could you lol

I installed mine- Without capacitors (2006 e53) and I had flicker-

So I fixed it by changing some values in the light module in NCS Expert...
X5 3.0d Sport, 2006 LeMans Blue, Six-Speed ZF auto, Panoramic roof, Intravee II, Navigation, etc...

Good job, glad you got the capacitors all sorted out now too. These smoked LED taillights look great on Sterling Grey and Le Mans Blue X5.

BTW: While installing the subwoofer box I managed to pull one of the cables out of the loom so needed to remove the taillight to fix it. At the same time I installed the OEM stock indicator chrome bulbs, looks a little bit better with no orange showing through.
