Warranty Direct
Warranty Direct
Hi all, Thought I'd share details of phone conversation I just had with Warranty direct(WD). The manufactures warranty on my x5 is due to end next month, after receiving letter from BMW offering me extended 12 months warranty for £899 I trawled through WD's website last weekend for quotes for an extended warranty,(£634) I left it at that. I received a phone call yesterday from WD that the online price for 12 months cover for the "extra care" policy for £634 could be reduced to £485. I asked that he e-mail me the policy booklet so that I could read the small print and promised to ring him back later that day. after reading small print without nodding off, rang back and said a deal could be done if he included the optional extra pack(emissions/air-bags-four wheel drive system-turbo system ) 100% cover on the franchised labour/parts rate also cover for the media package(sat-nav) on the x5, extend cover for 13 rather than 12 months. payable over 4 months interest free. He agreed for same price and deal done!
I know that when something goes wrong, these warranty firms will go through everything to try and wriggle out of paying if they can but that's the business they are in! These warranties may not be for everyone but it gives me a degree of comfort if anything major should happen to the engine or other component of my car. Hope this is of use to anyone thinking of going for an extended warranty and helps you to get it at a price which is acceptable and the extras you can get on the policy if you haggle! Good luck.

Re: Warranty Direct
I paid £325 for my warranty with WD for dealer rates etc. You are right, it sure as a battle when I claimed.
They don't pay for dealer diagnose charge, and the dealer won't fix anything without doing the diagnose. Then they only pay for the failing part, in my case the Glow Plug control box. They did not pay for the removal of the manifold to actually get to the part.
So from a £500 bill, I had to pay £300 for diagnoses and labour for the manifold removal + the £25 excess.
That peed me off a bit ...

Re: Warranty Direct
Yet when my auto box failed, all I paid for was the £60 to BMW to diagnose the fault and £50 of over £3,500 of transmission rebuild including all the labour covering removal, disassembly, rebuild and refit. The work was done by their nominated repairer, which might make a difference. No argument, no struggle.

Re: Warranty Direct
On the topic of Warranties, has any members heard of VGS warranty's if so, what have they a good or bad reputation?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Warranties are a waste of money...put the money you would spend on a warranty in a bank and pay for repairs as and when needed

When my transmission failed it was during the first year of WDs cover and I certainly could not have saved the cost of the repair in those 6 months. For me the warranty protection has more than paid for itself for the next few years. You make a valid statement in certain circumstances, but given just how expensive BMW repairs can be it's a large gamble to take your approach.
For domesic white goods or PC repairs I rarely if ever buy the extended warranty (I'll take it if it's free though) as it will almost certainly not be worth the premium. For a luxury car, no way. But each to their own, and it has to be what works for you.

Re: Warranty Direct
Appreciate the feedback.
I gather VGS aren't highly thought of?
What would one expect to pay for a yearly warranty through Warranty direct?
2005, 4.8is 78k on the clock.
Thanks.
Also any recommendations welcomed.
Fred.

Re: Warranty Direct
i got a call from warranty direct today and they gave me a price of 550 quid for my X5 which has 104k miles on it. they said that i should be receiving an e mail from them for the quote. i am kind a hesitant about this but i do want to have a piece of mind just in case something was to go wrong with it.

Wait a few days and they will call you back with a better offer. And ask for the Luxury Cover - covers almost all things...

Thats not a bad price in fairness for a vehicle running 104k.

Re: Warranty Direct
be very care full with the milage i thort about wd warrenty then had all info posted and read the small print you end up paying excees and about 50-60% wonce you go over 100k miles factor in the cost of the cover £500 and some thing like auto box rebuild been one of the worst cases, you can have this done for £1200so look youve already paid for it? small items wont be worth claiming and also some garages wont work for them, my local wont cos if it took him 3hr to fit say a started motor and they think it should only take 2hr they will only pay 2 hr so he wont do them any more. i would totally agree with dirtymonkey29 unless you are totally unable to diy anything and if your cars 3 yrs old i would just go bmw

Re: Warranty Direct
I think I won't be renewing my wd policy next year due to the age and mileage of my car 2002 and approaching 100k, they replaced my faulty injector but ended up paying nearly 150 of the 400 bill, as you have to pay percentage of parts or labour. The only thing I'm worried about is the turbo but will bite the bullet if anything happens. Newer cars I think it's worth it.

Still it's better than paying the full 400 bill

Re: Warranty Direct
Depends really - if the premium was £450 and the repair £150, he would have paid £600 for a £400 repair if that was the only claim that year.
