Put my name down for one at last :)

Found myself an X5 at last - or more suprisingly it found me via where I work !

Considering I originally wanted a prefacelift 4.4 or 4.6 in black ive ended up with a Gray 4.8 facelift  :))

It does have some noticable and some niggly issues that ill need to sort out before its gets driven but hoping they are nothing too bad - could be a risk or an opportunity

From what I know its got the following issues :
One remote wont unlock the doors but will start the car
The drivers front window is a bit noisy and slow in operation
There are a coule of buttons missing from the AC panel and the pixes are going funny
The passenger side rear suspension is low
The parking sensors just beep and flash when you push the button
A few small oil mistings above and below the engine

Other than that it seems pretty good and with low miles and service history it was too good an offer to turn down - only time will decide if its a good move !

Better get finding me a friendly forum  ;), a workshop manual and some tinkering time !

Good Luck.....that little lot should keep you busy.  Hard to gauge the cost to put all that right as some issues could be down to different  parts (quite some cost variation between sensors, control units & major components).

Hope you get that lot sorted for an acceptable figure relative to the car purchase cost.

Was certainly cheap - being in the motor trade helps and its a good 35 - 40% off what they seem to price at :)

Time will tell I guess but got to go with these things sometimes :)

Morning
Not such an horrendous list if your handy with the spanners, my top tips would be.

1. Get a Warranty to protect your wallet if anything big falls off
2. Get a BMW specific code reader (I have 1.4.0 cheap and works really well)
3. www.realoem.com Brilliant for schematics and part numbers then use the usual sources for the parts.
4. Find a good BMW Indy if you can for Knowledge and the big bits if the worse happens.

Good Luck enjoy the noise

Re the warranty advice, obviously existing  issues won't be covered....also the age and mileage of car potentially likely to exceed caps on some policies or result in high premiums, part claim settlement, significant betterment  contributions required or significant component exclusions.

As we all know these aren't 4 year old 40k mileage cars anymore.....premiums and/or policy limitations are therefore factors that make it less easy to source a cost effective useful policy.

I took out the Warranty on the 4.4 when I got it having read some of the issues others have had with their X5's on here and other sites, after it's demise they took on the 4.6 when I got it 75k with BMW and 1 Independent history. They pay all the labour and 50% of parts. The 4.6 has suffered two failures that needed claims, first the rear diff a £2k bill my contribution £600 then at Christmas last engine failure at just 100k requiring a complete rebuild total cost just over £5k  my contribution just over £1k the premium is just under £400 which I think is reasonable. Both claims settled without quibble. Nice as the 4.6 is had I been facing a big bill on what is an old car brought as a tow car, it would have been scrapped when the diff went let alone the engine.
So recognizing the cars age and mileage and the restrictions that the warranty has, I still believe its worth having and it has certainly protected my wallet.
