M50d factory order experience.

Hi all,

thought I would give my experience from ordering a M50d from the dealers, so it would give an indication of time from ordering to actually getting delivery. I asked in a previous post how long it would take, and it would be roughly 3 weeks shipping from Spartanburg -> Germany, and a week from Germany -> Vehicle Prep Centre up north.

Stated delivery date was late October due to the individualisation options.

I ordered on the 29th June the following spec:

KV62 F16 M50d N57 3.0
A96 Mineral White
LCSW Black Dakota Leather

Options
3AA Roof rails black
3AG Reversing Assist Camera
417 Sunblinds - Rear side windows
420 Sun protection glass
4NB Air conditiong, automatic with four-zone control
4U1 Ceramic finish for controls
5DL Surround-view
610 Head-up display
688 Loudpseaker system - Harmon/Kardon surround sound
6NW Enhanced bluetooth with wireless charging
6WB Multi-functional instrument panel
6WD WiFi hotspot preparation
715 M aerodynamic body styling
760 Exterior treim, high gloss shadowline
775 Headlining Anthracite
8TH Speed limit display
XE7 Piano Black - BMW Ind

It is now August 3rd, and I've asked the dealer to add to this to the spec (Alacantra headlining), and he says that it's too late, as my car has gone into production. Estimated delivery date is now early October....

I have also asked for tracking to be added, as it's a requirement from my insurance (£1500/yr without, ~£750 with tracking).

Interesting thread......mine has just been built  8)

I was able to track the order on the BMW website using the AG number supplied by the UK dealer.

Interestingly my car went from pre-production last Friday to built and out of the factory yesterday  :o

The BMW genius also suggested the car would be ready for collection within a couple of weeks giving me a data of delivery to the UK dealer of mid-August but I'm guessing that's more than a touch optimistic  :))

I have another delivery date to the uk dealer of the 5th September from the dealer themselves which seems more realistic. Currently I have a handover date of the 20th pencilled in due to work commitments and I'm now in Dublin from the 21st September for a week so I may well delay delivery again :'(

Here's my spec:

Model KS82 F15 X5 M50d N57 3.0
Colour A52 Space Grey Metallic
Upholstery LCSW Black Dakota leather

Option 248 Steering wheel heating
Option 3AG Reversing Assist camera

Option 4B9 Fine Brushed Aluminium interior trim
Option  402 Panoramic glass sunroof
Option 456 Comfort seats. front
Option 488 Lumbar support. driver and front pass.
Option 5AC High-beam Assistant
Option 5AR Traffic Jam Assist

Option 5AT Driving Assistant Plus
Option 5DL Surround-view
Option 552 Adaptive LED Headlights
Option 6NW Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging
Option 6WD WiFi hotspot preparation
Package ZMS M Sport Plus package (Sun Pro, HUD, harmon/kardon, Speed-Limit Display and reduced price 20" alloys)

Oh nice!!! I didn't know that - do you have the URL at hand? I thought you could only track if it was a US based order (FOI - Freedom of Information act etc etc)

Now *that* is interesting... I actually did my order on the 25th June, but the dealer got back to me and said that ZMS was not available, so they re jigged the contract to include all the bits, but for the same monthly payment.

You've got a nice spec, but since I plan to keep this car for a long time (HP rather than PCP), I didn't want too many moving parts that could potentially fail after x many years

Update to this thread,

Contacted dealership (they are v bad at communicating) not impressed with Inchape (cooper), so far status codes are:

03/06/2016 1100 Scheduled
19/08/2016 1200 Scheduled for production.

I believe codes 5000+ is next, then 9000+ for shipping...

From departing plant to delivery to the dealer took less than three weeks in my case albeit I read it can take longer!

So the car arrived, and there was a monumental cock up at the factory, so the privacy glass option was not installed.

BMW Cooper deducted the cost, and gave me the service plan for free. (originally they wanted to take the car to a 3rd party and tint it, and didn't want to use an OEM window replacement). I kicked up a fuss a bit, because it wasn't the spec I wanted.

I also added the BMW Cat5 tracker, and BMW Advanced eye, which seems to be quite good. The total cost for installation and parts for both the Cat5 + Advanced eye was around £1450.

It ruins the whole experience when your car arrives with the wrong Spec i'm sure. The refund for the glass doesn't really compensate for the inconvenience.

Sounds like a lovely Spec though, and hope you enjoy years of driving pleasure.

If anybody is intersted, this is the BMW Advanced eye video it produces. It works well in VLC, as the AVI is dual video stream, and I think not many programs support that.

Link to my dropbox: https://www.dropbox.com/s/tk4c31s6opkp7 ... 2.avi?dl=0

You will need to download it locally before viewing so you can see the rear camera too. 30mb

That's a real shame and personally I would have rejected the car and waited for the right spec.

Obviously other than that, good that you've got the car and you're happy and I hope you enjoy it  ;)

If I were to have the Advanced Eye, what sort of cost would that be fitted?
