Back in an e53 and the questions are starting already!

So, after a few years out of the X5 I've finally bought another (pictures to follow when I pick it up). I've gone for a Black 54 reg 4.8is with panoramic roof - this was always my favourite and I have to have a V8 in my life at least for a year or two - but obviously dreading big bills.

After gradually cleaning out the garage of the old bits and bobs I'm going to be looking to buy things again!

Can anyone confirm, can I run four 19" front wheels all around for a winter set? I'm thinking the E70 SE wheels with spigots.

Also, is there anything fancy and new to connect an ipod to the standard head unit or is the only option an intravee 2 (I previously had one and it was great)?

With that in mind, is anyone selling an intravee 2? (I know I've just missed out on one on here.

YES you can run a set of 4 matching 19" rims all round.

I run a set of 4 REAR wheels... they fit fine & I added 30mm spacers to the rear, & 15mm spacers to the front... and it's like driving on rails.
having 295 width on wider rims on the front AND rear virtually eliminates the tyre scrub on the front tyres too

Is that with the 285 45 19 tyre size?

Hi Pete have you got the car yet ? There are two types of E70 wheels M sport and Se wheels both have different offsets front to back and different offsets from each type .
Your Se wheels are un likely to fit the rears unless you fit spacers which most insurance companies charge inflated premiums for or in my case wouldnt insure my car .
I would try them first of all but recommend fitting the correct wheels for safety !

I have the intravee 2 and the alpine KCA thingy as well. I have been meaning to sell it since I no longer use it....

Simple answer Pete.... jack the vehicle & put a pair of rears on the front, or even just one rear tyre/wheel.... see if anything touches..., lock to lock & back/fwds a few yards... you will soon know for sure then ..

My OEM 19" E53 rims = 19" x 285 x 45's,    & a set of 4 rear rims fit on all 4 corners...

You don't necessarily "need" spacers, but the track width is set perfectly with the combo I quoted..

As our friend "Sid10" correctly states, many insurance companies will hike the rates if spacers are fitted...

I'm lucky, I got a set of disks/hubs machined with the spacing machined into the part, so there is no separate spacer fitted ... as I used to work for the manufacturers of the disks a couple of years ago lol

Hi X5 -D-Sport Salisbury unfortunately the E70 Se version wheels have a different offset to the usual e53 wheels , the fronts are et48 and rears et53 generally the E53 has et 48 fronts et45 rears so putting the E70 rears on the front and rears same size are both going in the arches 8mm more than they should be added to the bigger wheel size and tyres and unfortunately they catch on the rear inner arch . I bought a set of style 213 wheels and tyres from a local dealer , they said that they would fit but they didn't and wouldn't take them back ( buggers) .
The MSport E70 are front et48 and et21 on the rears in 19" guise so the rears would fit front to and back same size if he had the wheel extensions .
I didn't realise either that there were 2 different versions , although I now run X6 wheels on my E53 as they are the perfect fit !
Pete you are best buying the right wheels and selling the 2 you have to E70 owners as spare wheels .
        Regards

Thanks Sid10, I knew you'd have the answer.

With what you have said, would four of the front style 213's be ok though? I'd ordered the tyres (front size) before your reply.

Hi the only problem I can see is you will need 4 spigot rings to centre the wheels , they might sit in the arch 28 MM. more than the original wheels as they are only 9" instead of 10" . If you can live with that that's fine most X5 Msport owners have no choice with their winter wheels other  than putting spacers on .
That's why I asked if it had the extended arches !
Good luck .
