Just picked up my 50d

Great service from Todd at Vines Crawley, the car being absolutely immaculate and everything ready so I could make a swift exit.

I spent some time talking to the BMW Genius (who was very young but clearly knew his product) running through the active cruise and new iDrive.

First impressions are obviously it's a lovely place to be.

The ride is much softer than my M5, clearly it's quite quick but it's well finished and very quiet.

Looking forward to racking up some miles  8)

Thanks fellas  ;)

One function I'm happy with is the dash is lit white during the day much the same as my M5 was.

My wife's new X3 doesn't have a lit dash during the day and I understand the 30d and 40d are the same however can be coded so I read and I wasn't sure what to expect.

Anyway, any excuse to have a drive and I'm off to Tesco now for a sugar cube  :)

All lovely, couple more observations......

The speed limit display is just a little too far over to the left - I have posted on a thread from March and understand this can be rectified using ISTA (whatever that is?)

However rather disapointingly my son pointed out the top of the iDrive button was peeling yesterday. It appears it's only stuck in place and I'm sure just a quick fix. I've already sent an email to the dealer making them aware  :(

Other than that, it's lovely.

I like the way the dash is white during the day and red at night, my M5 was always white and personally I prefer red at night.

Ive also noticed the HUD changes colour at night and goes from white to orange which didn't happen on my F10, BMW are clearly constantly tweaking these things and it's an improvement.

Setting up BMW remote was a doddle and my iPhone talks to my car as it should.

The new iDrive will take some getting used to. The commands are all there (and much more), the quality of the maps and the processing speed are clearly much faster and better but it's knowing where to find thingsn the various sub menus. There are also now videos and all sorts of information available if you wish to delve into the system.

It appears on the 50d you can configure the sport button to adjust transmission and suspension or simply either. Is this also available on the 40d etc.? I can't find any information about it in the manual and whilst I can see what I'm doing, I don't know the fine detail which I'd like to - does anyone know?

There's also a new USB port under the heater controls which makes life's easier rather than digging around in the glove box.

After seeing our 40d on Friday and having a play around. We are able to configure the sport mode the same as you can.

Don't know if it is available on the other engines though.  Just know that when having a look through all the menus it was something we could do.

Shame we can't bloody drive it lol

This is really interesting, my X5 (Jul '16 build) doesn't have the dash lit during the day, whereas "Mrs Kered's" X3 (Mar '16 build) does, as did her previous X3 (2013) ??

It's one thing that's bugging me slightly about my new X5  :(

Mogsyman,

When you say 'get used to the new iDrive' what is different?

I'm referring to the latest iDrive 5

It's been in the 7 series for about a year and now being introduced down the range.

I'll take some pics and post later when I have a chance.
