Was fiddling with my other bmw and in the boot I found a miniature CD of the 1.4.0 scanner, god knows how I got it, loaded it up on my windows 7 laptop, it loads up ok but only mentions drivers for windows 98 and XP. Also I have some USB connections, but don't know if any or which one came with the CD (which I've already mentioned I don't know where the Cd came from either)So is this likely to work. Have copied instructions. Any comments appreciated.
To install drivers for an BMW Scanner device under Windows XP and XP SP1, follow the instructions
below:
If you are running Windows XP or Windows XP SP 1, temporarily disconnect your PC from the
Internet. This can be done by either removing the network cable from your PC or by disabling
your network card by going to the "Control Panel\Network and Dial-Up Connections", right-clicking
on the appropriate connection and selecting "Disable" from the menu. The connection
can be re-enabled after the installation is complete. This is not necessary under Windows XP
SP 2 if configured to ask before connecting to Windows Update. Windows XP SP 2 can have
the settings for Windows Update changed through "Control Panel\System" then select the
"Hardware" tab and click "Windows Update".

[/quote] the scanner is a black oblong box with an 0bd2 plug on one end and a fixed lead with a USB plug on the other, its powered from the car not the PC. Drivers are available on the net, the software is carsoft 1.4.0.
Mine came from china with a corrupt disc so I loaded the software of the internet . Copy the windows 7 drivers into my documents.
Plug the scanner into the car to power up, connect the PC, it will say drivers not loaded. Go to device manager in settings, click on connected devices, the scanner should be recognised in a tab, click on it it will prompt you to load drivers. Choose the load from a specific location and browse to documents etc. ( I'm useless with PC's and I got it to work, but that was a few years ago and on a PC with XP )
If you havnt got the black box anyway your done.
Know I know why I bought Carley app now

Carly is sooo much better and far easier to use.  Its under constant development too.  I managed to get the 1.4.0 to work years ago, in the days of Reslers and Navcoder - it was all a Dark Art then!  I bought an old win xp laptop to use for it and for some Vagsoft-type software for our Vw and Audi.

Well Horizon, as you say, I'm done. No black box. As an added note, I'll bet I could take you on and win the accolade of being, "useless with a PC"
CondorX5, people keep talking about Carly, maybe If I drop enough hints in the right ears you never know what I might get for crimbo.

Great idea for a Christmas present, as I can be purchased by 2 people, one buys the app, and one buys the wireless connector ( Apple ) Bluetooth adapter ( Android )
I've been mythered by the family what I want for Christmas for weeks, if I didn't have it already, it would have been a good gift from the kids. ( KIDS !!! 25 and 23, " S**t I'm getting old

Don't think so, it's more like optional extras that are coda le, or country specific things.
I was going to retro fit CIC IDrive in my CCC equipped car and looked into the required coding and it was t possible in Carly. So I just did the controller opgrade instead, as it was plug and play.
Auto logic is needed or GTI for Tharp level of coding,  it that's also available at easy. Obey too on the net these days.

Ive got the box if you want to make me an offer for it, plus postage. I tinkered and set up a few things on my 2004 X5 but have changed laptops and now running everything on Mac than Windows, so no need for the box. I set auto locking at 12mph when driving and audible beep with the alarm, and aux heating for the webasto. I have the box, cable and disc.

Yes, but with the WiFi you can leave the adapter in the glove box and you always have your phone, so when your away it's just there. To be honest I didn't even know it was could be WiFi until I started looking into it.
