Clunking noise

Everyonce in a while, I get a clunking noise from just to the left of the drivers seat inside the engine bay. I got my mechanic to check if there was anything loose underneath, but couldn't see anything. The car is running fine, no lights. Do the 3.0i have timing chains (only asking as it sounds chainy).

is it on idle ? like a clunk that affects the idle speed but doesnt really affect the running ?

They all have timing chains. No rubber snappy bands on these engines. The V8's are a known weak spot (chain guides) but the 6-cyl engines are usually much better.

Rather long delay in replying. The noise stops after the car has been running for a while and therefore would this be the timing chain? would the noise subside once the engine has been running? the other cause could be the Lifters as did have an issue with them possibly leaking oil.

It's not the DISA valve is it- they make a funny noise when broken. And it's on the left of the driver seat.

I hope not as replaced that last year with an uprated version. But should check. But leaning towards the lifters, going on my readings
