Hey guys,

My car has just received a full checkup and everything is fine except the rear brake pads, they said the pads are 90% worn but warning light has not come on for them yet? when does it come on? also have to go to Manchester tomorrow thats about 200 miles roundtrip for me, is it ok to drive in this condition?

When my van was in for service last time, they said my pads were 75% worn, that was 18000 miles ago !!!
Wear indicators are only on one front and one rear calliper/ disc.
As the inner usually wear quicker due to debris and crap being drawn in.
Get a torch and look through the alloys to see for yourself.

Any idea when the light comes on? they are at 90% now and the light is not on yet, could it be faulty sensor or does it come on near 100%?

It comes on when the pad wear shorts it out.  As said, there are only two fitted and if the wear is mainly to one pad of each pair then it may not yet be worn enough.

If in doubt then they are simple enough to change, and you won't need to buy the new sensor either (they are single use).

Yes you'll be fine going the 200 miles but obviously thry'll need replAced sooner or later so plan for that. The sensor is a warning its not the imit so there will still be some life in them

As above, it'd be fine for the trip as most braking done via front anyway, but do them soon as X5sport stays, can reuse sensors again then rather than replacing, and know you set for many more miles..
