Door mirror missing part

Hi chaps, was hoping I might get some help on here as this forum is amazing. My passenger side door mirror stopped moving up and down so I stripped it to find that the little double ended metal clip that runs up and down on the bracket sensor ( for want of a better word) had snapped of. Trawled loads of forums and internet but no luck and I don't want to spend £150 plus for a new mirror as much as I love my x 5 . Cheers lads

I think your only choice is new, or salvage. The parts are not available separately as far as I know.

Well the new mirror assemblies, without glass or trim, are £343 EACH from BMW, never mind £150! - my old 4.8is has just had them replaced (under warranty thank goodness) this week :'(
The satnav had popped its clogs again as well (third unit!) and was replaced at fantastically stupid cost (nearly £2400 courtesy of the warranty)
Mad mad prices. What a gamble owning one of these with no warranty!

Which warranty? Is it a BMW approved used thing or one one of those warranty direct type outfits

I extended the BMW AUC warranty - been worth its weight in gold, I must say. Definitely not one of those warranty direct thngs - most people don't have much success with claims on them, although I do recall X5Sport had a new gearbox or something very pricey out of them once?
The dealership has someone who just deals with the warranty repairs, which helps - and BMW have done a number of goodwill repairs where waranty hasn't covered, due to the car having a very complete main dealer service record.

I would not waste my money on WD again. The only two claims I made (glow plug control unit and gearbox gasket) was marginalised as they did not pay for the diagnostic costs, subtracted a large percentage as the car was on something like 60k or so, did not pay for the manifold removal. So in the end, a £700 claim resulted in a £150 or so "contribution" by WD. For the gearbox sump leak, they only paid for the gasket itself and not the removal of the components nor the oil for the gearbox and all sorts of other costs.

I've kept my BMW Warranty going. Not cheap at £1,000 a year, but the repair costs without it are far worse.

I agree about the BMW warranty - without it my 4.8is would have been the source of much heartbreak and unaffordable repairs!
