Bit of a refresh for the 'old girl'

In the last few months I had been debating selling my facelift E53 X5.

I soon came to my senses and decided to give it a little refresh instead. Better the devil you know etc.

Full service
All front suspension arms
Replaced torque convertor
Gearbox service

Pleased to say that the rev hunting and slightly odd behavior from the gearbox when under light load (typical torque convertor issues) has now gone and I am back to the lovely smooth drive

The front arms have tightened things up beautifully as well.

With all the rear arms and bushes replaced about 30k miles ago she is driving beautifully.

Now I just need to refurbishment the wheels and I'll be happy. Might need to let my bank balance recover a bit first though! :D

Excellent news. They are fun to drive when they're tight and locked down so to speak.
No specific figures required but how much roughly speaking does a transmission fluid change cost, with and without torque convertor replacement.
I'm guessing the latter is four figures......indy prices.
If you went dealer then ignore this.
If DIY then ripple of applause.

DIY? Haha!!

I'm afraid not!

I have a very friendly Mechanic who is a bit of a genius.

Suspension arms (Meyle) were just under £400 fitted

I sourced the torque convertor (second hand but all working perfectly from a fairly low mileage donor car) and the total for the part, fitting and servicing the box was £530.

All in all I'm chuffed!

I had the box serviced at my local indy just after I got it 4 years ago. I think that was £250 plus the vat?

Good price. I'm getting to that point where I should be considering a fluid change, but then isn't everyone. I'm at 89000 miles and this is the last of my to do list. No doubt something else will go tits up before that and push this on to the back burner but interesting reading nonetheless.

Hey Dimsum Sir,
Can you ask your mechanic if he has ever swapped out an AC pump of a Diesel Sport face-lift... I have the replacement pump to hand, but not the pipe gaskets.
& I'm happy to come to him if he can do it.
