Folks, looking to order a new turbo and some appear to be advertised for only some of the 184, 211 and 218bhp motors, so how can I tell what power I have (or against least had when she was new and working)? Checked v5c, doesnt mention it at all.
Thanks

With lack of info in post & absence of a signature I trawled your old posts.....
A 2005 3.0d should be 218 bhp

Sorry aw8, I was expecting a reply along the lines of its X part of the vin or the engine number is stamped with it etc, didnt think the basic details would be sufficient, as parkers etc seem to quote all variants.
Cheers, I'll get back on the turbo hunt now.
Good shout though, didn't realise no sig etc, so have added it.

Use Realoem as it is the BMW Parts database on line. That way you can find the actual part number for your year. You need the build date from under the bonnet. It works very well and will give you the right part number to reference your search against.
You can use the last 7 characters of your VIN to get the right selection on Realoem, and then check whether more than one variant was used. If only one variant shown, then there's your answer. The variants only exist when the turbo manufacturer changes the part, or if BMW spec a change.
You have an M57 T30DU (2,993cc) engine with 218bhp and it was used from late 2003 builds to end of E53 production.

Thanks x5sport. I've used BMW part number from realoem, but it doesn't match up to what was taken off, have added details in the turbo issue thread to keep it all together.
