Dynavin N6 install, reversing camera, moving OEM to boot

Just looking at options so I've a couple of queries following on from the other threads.

1. On the dynavin, if you install a reversing camera, does the camera plug into the module in the boot or do I need to run cables from the back to the head unit.

2. Hopefully Henrym3 can answer this: in order to keep the on board computer functions I have seen a couple of threads about moving the original mk4 nav to the boot area. Does the original nav head unit have connectors that are just for the obc functions, if so is that how you relocate it by moving that part of the loom, just wondering when you have the nav unit in the boot where it is wired into

Reverse camera is plugged into the head unit so you have to run a lead/cable from back to front, took the power from the reverse lights. Not a great hassle as you are going to have to run the lead you just bought.
As for relocating the head unit to the boot, the two plugs that go into the head unit, one blue and one white, they have to go to the rear area as well, obviously they are part of the original loom and therefore have to be disentangled from it. Not difficult but time consuming and can be done at the same time as you lay the other leads if your going down that route.  With the Dynavin all that stuff in the l/h cubby hole is redundant apart from the DSP amp which you can adjust for sound via the original HU. I kept mine in there as the whole system could be returned to original. That will probably never happen.
I modified the bracket in there to take the head unit but it was a PITA to do although I'm glad I did as it looks neat. I put some pics of it on here at the time. Hope this helps you make a decision.
As a word of caution the Dynavin although brilliant IMO, can become expensive if you start adding modules to it, ie TV, DAB and they now offer Car Play.

Many thanks Henry, that's really useful, I think this is probably the best route for me, sounds like I'll need a few spare hours and a good few coffees!

[/quote]when I installed my Dynavin several years ago in my then E53 , the headunit knew when it was put in reverse via the canbus system and used to put its self into PDC mode showing a similar screen to my E60 CCCidrive PDC screen.
The aftermarket headunit I fitted to my MK6 Golf TDI  which didn't have factory fitted parking sensors, I had to power the reverse camera from the reverse light feed.

Might it depend on the camera then? I've no experience with doing this before so I'm not familiar with the cameras, I see there's one that fits in the number plate light so I guess it's quite easy to power from the reversing light if needed, are you saying your camera on the x5 was powered from the dynavin then?

Maybe it does depend on the camera, mine is an e-bay cheapo £14 thingy that is fitted in the pull out part of the rear bumper where tow bar would go, excellent picture and shows the PDC screen in the top corner. Yes like Horizon says, if I disconnect the camera I get the full screen PDC which with nothing connected must be detected from the canbus.

Might be being a bit thick here but what do you mean by the PDC screen? Is that on your dynavin? Not on my OEM screen I take it, or have I missed it in the settings? I love the car but it is kind of weird going back in time with technology, you get used to lease cars with all round cameras and Bluetooth streaming etc as the norm after a while! Nothing that can't be fixed with time and money though  :)

So far I've managed to change my FSR, put new Bosch battery in, dropped the oil, reset the service indicator and changed all filters, initialise the keys so they both work, fixed the rear lights, put new badges and wheel caps on, cam chain tensioner is in the boot ready to go in, starter motor, LCD dash screen and new drive belts on the way, just a brake fluid flush and airbag safety recall to go and I'll be ready to mess with the audio, great fun tinkering so far  :))

This is an example of a "Park Distace Control " screen from an BMW CIC system, as an example.
You just see the fake car image until you get close to an object and then the green appears to signify which sensor is picking up the obstruction. So only the left corner for example, accompanied by the normal warning bleeps. The closer you get the colour s change until red appears in the screen signifying  the obstruction is very close.
The Mk4 BMW system didn't have this option. Cars with CCC and CIC IDrive have,
The aftermarket headunit convert the canbus signals from your original parking sensors into this very handy PDC screen.
Hope that was understandable

You get the same picture on the Dynavin, then if you fit a reverse camera that screen reduces in size and appears in the top r/h corner of the screen.

Dynavin certainly looks like a good bit of kit
