Hi there, I just bought a 2005 3.0d today and on the way home, the red triangle with the round arrow came on, I believe this is the dsc light? It's my first x5, what is this most likely to be? I am able to do pretty much all mechanical jobs with a guide so I may need to buy a code reader to read exactly what it is if it saves taking this to get done as I hate taking motors to the garage. Is there a decent priced obd reader to buy without the laptop route?(don't have a laptop now, just iPad) any info would be great, thanks in advance

The car is mine, private sale and I think I did quite well with the price. I'm only looking for advice on the problem and would greatly appreciate any input on it. Thanks again

I would advise that the first step would be to get the codes read to try and pinpoint the actual cause of the problem.
There are several possible causes that can case a DSC light. Anything from a faulty wheel sensor, the wheel tracking , steering angle sensor etc etc.
Hopefully once you can identify a fault code it maybe a simple fix. Good luck.

I'm wrong here, seems it's the tyre monitor warning, it's not the triangle, it's the exclamation mark doh!!

In that case a bit of air all round (assuming it isn't a puncture), move forward at very slow speed whilst keeping the reset button pressed and you will be good to go
I had it happen on mine two or three times and it was a false alarm every time >:(
The system uses the ABS sensors to monitor wheel speed and when one changes beyond a limit then it throws a warning. Usually a yellow first but mine threw a red on at least one occasion.

I find that for whatever reason, the light comes on in the next day or so after the tyres have been pumped up. Once I follow the present procedure it goes away. so it may be the seller inflated the tyres before you came to purchase it
Hopefully it will be sorted now
