venting fan won't switch off

My interior venting fan is not switching off even after 30 minutes when the car is locked up, I have tried disabling it by selecting the venting mode on the computer and switch it off, no luck when I switch the ignition off it is still running and if I leave the car for an hour or more the battery nearly goes flat
:headbang:
so I have resorted to pulling out the big 50 amp fuse :( is this common ?

Sounds like the heater final stage resistor ( hedgehog resistor ) is knackered.
Plenty of threads on outpost.

As long as it is OEM then fine - don't get anything else.

Located behind aircon - below satnav. Footwell panel, etc... Fiddly, as usual...

Probably worth giving a Land Rover dealer a call- the FSR on the L322 Range Rover (2002 to 2004) is identical- and I believe about 2/3 the price compared to the BMW dealers. (identical part, from identical manufacturer, just in a an LR box!)

As Sanj said- stick to OE- anything else could have potential safety issues (worst case thinking along the lines of shorting out and causing a fire)

Okay looks like I'll need my very big hammer then  Once I dug it out hopefully I will be able to confirm if it has blown.

Thank;s X5Sport
Those pictures in the pdf are fantastic and easy to follow, I hope I get the problem solved in the next few days

You won't see if it is ' blown' , just make sure you replace with the updated version.

As Lez says, you won't see anything wrong with it... you just need to replace it and make sure it is with the new version.

:D It is now done and all is working well
It took me about 25 minutes, looking at the old one there is indeed no sign of a problem, as the new one has a different type of caseing to the old one
I presume it is the updated version, anyway I'm very happy it is all back to normal, many thanks to everyone that helped

Well done Powercat. Was it a tough job? By the sound of some of the stories related to access I would rather lay on a live hedgehog than fit one for the X !

Hi ITBarbie
I found it an easy job, the pictures posted by X5Sport where a big help and I have always repaired my own cars,
so I am used to getting my hands in tight places ;) as for hedgehogs :o anywayI guess it's a story of horses for courses

You have a facelift Barbie (hmm, sounds a bit odd ..), so your hedgehog should not go ...
