1080P is the minimum you should use these days - and is the same quality as HD Blu-ray Discs.
As to how good it is in reality I cannot say. It has to be connected to 12V power and to the OBDII (diagnostics) socket as well.
I use a Nextbase 512G if that is of any use.
You need to look for low light performance as well as normal light. Some cameras perform perfectly well in daylight but are rubbish at night. Worth seeing what on line reviews are around to get real world info before you commit

Depends what your looking for, I don't like having a camera with a screen on the dash, to big and I can see where I'm going. I have a tiny camera which loop records with ignition on and it is connected to my head unit but I never look at it, had the SD card out and viewed on my computer it's 1080 and a perfectly adequate picture to view faces number plates etc. If your looking something to record your holiday journey on perfectly clear long range video then it's not for you. I'm pleased enough to be getting another for the rear window and only look at the SD card if there's an incident. Item 322599332630
