Handbrake fault

Post by Lumpimeister » Tue Jan 02, 2018 2:45 pm

HI All,

i have an issue with my BMW X5 E70 handbrake.

i had a fault come up on the screen stating the handbrake is faulty. When i lift the lever nothing happens and when i press the auto hold button i get a further alert stating there is a fault with the handbrake.

i can drive the car no problem and when driving if i pull the lever up the handbrake does come on (Obviously i have only tested this as very slow speed)

i am hoping this is just a switch fault and not the actuator.

Can anyone else help, or has anyone had the same problem.

Kind regards

Lumpimeister.

We have seen this a few times and it usually means the actuator unit isn’t working properly.

There was a thread on here a few months back from someone who managed to repair theirs - if if yours is still working that might be good to try.

Otherwise they are about £500 or more from BMW (who will only replace not repair).

Not the best start to 2018  >:(

But :hi: anyway  :D

Mines gone again!!!  Luckily I phone BMW as all their parts have a 2 year warranty and it's booked up for the end of the month.
Mine was stuck and I had to manually release the beast.
I had a new actuator done about 18 months ago, not sure why it gone so quickly
