Morning all,

As you may know i'm better with spanners than electrics - so i know when to ask for help!

I want to try and either:-

Run a USB port so i can plug in my iphone and listen to music or
Run a USB port that allows you to charge

both is preferable but i 'm not too confident with electrics so will opt for the easier option if this exists !!

From the forum i gather you can buy a USB port and wire it in via the back of the radio and then mount in the ashtry area, this appears realtivley simple from the kit - has anyone done this and can confirm the bm part number i need or other supplier ?

Anyone fitted a charging USB port and if so what parts did they use and is there a How To anywhere.

Thanks i advance for any input into this.

Available from many sources
I note the bmw sockets sits flush whereas other units sit proud
In regards to music streaming, I’m probably not the best person to ask

Available from various auction / Market sites or filling stations

cheers for the response.

i take it these just push into the lighter socket  - which will work to be honest, i just was hoping for more of an oem fit / look so they sat flush (if you get my drift) . Good news even i can fit this electrickery !!!!!!!!

will look at the site now to see what it looks like.

cheers again

Not sure that a USB option was ever supported on the E53.  The iPod kit wired into the Radio head up front but only had a 3.5mm audio socket on it.  It then plugged (via a separate lead) into the headphone socket - which Apple have also discontinued.

[/quote]Just check the output rating...

I got 2 of them (one for each of our cars) only to discover they are 1amp output - which would barely keep power in a phone.

I did find a generic one in a petrol station that is pretty flush and rated for 2.1a output
