Hi all, just a quick one. Sometimes after having my roof in the tilt position, it will not close ?? It tries to come down but goes back up ?? It has closed later after trying again after about 15 mins on 1 occasion. I also tried it from my key fob to see if the switch was not working right but still it did same ?? Still less than 3 years old so covered but any ideas please ?? Will trust what you guys tell me more than the Stealers for some strange reason  :))

Pano roofs are a problem on every version of the X5, and far too many other brands too.  White metal castings break or bits stick in the mechanism.

Unless it’s a faulty sensor/limit switch, the best thing is to get it into BMW.  Get them to foot the bill as long as it fails in their presence.  New units are probably £3-4k now!

Half the trouble is getting it not to work properly when in there hands  >:( but I did video it on my phone which lasts about a minute and half of me trying to close it and it just pops back up, so hopefully I can show and send it them as I had to once with a problem with the sat nav on my old E70 I owned.

Its due brake fluid change in April so might get it in early and hopefully get both sorted on same day.

I wouldn’t hold your breath about getting the roof done in a day unless it’s a dead easy problem to fix.

Expect your car to be in the dealers for a couple if not more.

It’s a big job to take the roof down and then remove and replace the whole cassette (which is what they do).

If its going to be fixed properly or replaced, then tbh I'm happy for them to have the car a week  :)

Have you tried a reset of the roof ?. With ignition on, press the roof button, and continue to hold until the roof, has gone through all its cycles, at least a couple of minutes. Hope this helps. This helped me when my roof refused to close, with your symptoms, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLg3yR8Z2PE

yes I have seen a few now on you tube but its now booked in for day at Sytners to be looked at with a few other jobs so I will leave it to them to sort now just in case of any further problems. Hopefully it might be all it needs as it only done it 3 times now in 4 months but thanks for reply

The answer is to call bmw assist when it wont close then get a written report to hand over to main dealer. Take a photo as well.
