Brake light switch function

Can anyone tell me if the brake light switch has any other function apart from the lights and to deactivate cruise.

I think it can be linked to whether the abs kicks in too - had an issue on another car - and brake light switch came up on the diagnostics... cleaned the terminals and resolved the issue... (ie abs warning light went off and restored the abs!)
