Having seen and read of all of the issues faced by owners of BMWs with diamond cut wheels, is there anything that can be put on at new to stop the corrosion?

My new Gran Tourer xDrive has diamond cut and I want to keep them looking as good as possible for as long as possible rather than fight BMW over replacing them time after time!

What detailing products are a definite ‘no!’ when cleaning them?  I use Bilberry Juice on our other BMWs.

Ive always polished and waxed my wheels.....they still look as good as new...what most do is just wash and dry the wheels..you have to treat them as you do the rest of the car....

I’d definitely just keep them waxed and stick to the bilberry as I do. Also dry them off and don’t use the jet wash too close to them. Other than that pray and hope.

You can always get a winter set of wheels for it, that would save the diamond cut ones from the salt and winter corrosion.

Apart from that it's regularly cleaning and sealing them to lengthen their longevity. I used poor boys wheel sealant.

I’m very seriously looking at that option, and given the challenges of getting to work last winter, seasonal tyres are a definite on the shopping list.  Actually finding a set is the current ‘opportunity’ as the two listed for the car are now incompatible due to one or other option we have picked!  I’m not sure if it’s the MSport trim (which would just be silly) or the active suspension, but the accessories check list doesn’t like the VIN compatibility check!

With the winter wheel option they have offered it could be the offset for clearance of brakes etc or if the car has larger diameter brakes that could mean you need to go up on the wheel size you need for winter wheels.

I know from my X5 it can only have 20" wheels and larger due to the brakes but yet a lot of winter wheels offered for the X5 are 18". So it could be the same for the 220.

It may be worth checking out the website up in hull area I think it was called the tyremen and they did winter wheels to fit as well as supplying winter tyres, and being non BMW franchise it may be a better price.

It turns out that I needed to select a higher load rated tyre.  The BMW accessories configurator defaults to an incompatible tyre with a load index of 90 (that’s helpful then!) and selecting the higher 95 version is fine.  These are the alloys I’m concerned about....

They look like ///M 400 style alloys, have them on my e46....
