X70 retrofits

Post by SIN6H » Mon Aug 06, 2018 2:18 pm

Hey all,
I am a sucker for having a car with loads of bells and whistles and finidng one with all of them is proving to be a challenge, so i olan to buy one with most of what i want and retrofit the rest (i quite enjoy this)

The key thing’s id like to do below are:

1 - surround view on a pre-lci
2 - corner cameras
3 - rear heated seats
4 - rear blinds
5 - individual audio

4 & 5 i know how to do but 1-3 im stuck with, anyone tried/done these?

Have a look at Realoem, use the last 7 of your VIN in serial number, and check what kits are available.

If they aren’t offered by BMW then it’s a case of searching part by part  :(

The E70 onwards are not easy to upgrade and retrofit - though not impossible - due to the way the electronics are locked via licence and serial numbers recorded in the iDrive/computers.

I’d be inclined to revisit your list of must haves, consider adding HBA & Adaptive Xenons as priority
I know of the perfectly specced car with 4 out 5 + the above, sadly its a five seater.... ;)

Beware of doing that as it changes the type certification and towing & payload weight limits for the car.  If you add seats to a 5-seater you will need to get it re approved.  Certain things are not permitted on 7-seater cars that are on 5-seaters.  There are subtle but key differences in the body shell construction.

Buy a 7-seater.

well self leveling suspension and run flats with no spare tyres are there for a reason. its not a straight conversion at all.

Hi as others have said it's tricky to retro firi bits on the E70.

It may be worth waiting for the better spec car, items 1 and 5 are common but items 2 and 3 are less so and retro fitting item 3 a forum member was quoted over 2k for heated rear seats.

Re item 4 the rear blinds I've only seen a couple of times as most will tint the rear windows instead.

You may find that the SE model cars may have a better spec over the MSport ones.
