just got the x pipe fitted on the shed,  will post pics and a video later.
not too loud, not a great deal of droning , and on certain revs its near silent

got to get used to it , as it IS louder than my origional

Is it just louder or is it more V8’y, aren’t they sopposed to free up more power? If so is it noticeable. Or, as in most cases because it’s louder one gets the impression it’s quicker.

I'm contemplating getting a H pipe instead of the fat box in the centre of the exhaust- doesn't it have an X pipe inside it anyway?
I want a deeper V8 burble like our L320.
An X pipe gives more power in high revs but less torque in low revs whereas a H pipe is opposite. Allegedly.

Surely 5 mpg can’t be down to just an X pipe, you must have done something else, plugs, coils?

so today, I stripped the front end of the engine down to get to the little pipe,
air box, fan , all coolant pipes,  thought to myself look at all the thick crud on them upper timing cases, so I degreased the entire engine , then blasted it  so now I got a nice clean sparkly front of engine. should be able to see where oil leaks coming from,
i checked all my pulleys they were fine, AC made a noise when you span it ,  but nothing else,
then everything went down hill.
i spun the water pump and i dont know why but i tried moving it side ways, and yeay,  there was sideways movemt  and a nice unwelcoming click when you did it, great new waterpump , checked receipts its 4 year old
so then thoughtt ill take it out  ready for next week ,
so undid the screw on the waterpump and the little nut on the right hand side , and the damn pipe fell out

the little tab on the left has broke off,  and looking at it it the left side looks a bit battered,
so new one of them bought aswell,

so loads of new bits ordered ,
so i wont get to drive it for a bit longer, i dont get why when you spend loads of brasssto "treat" a car, she then pays you back by breaking loads of bits !! :)

Maybe all that crud was holding everything together. Better to find that stuff at home than on the road. If the front of the engine is/was covered in crud and it isn’t visibly coming from the cam cover then it will be the solenoid valve seals/gasket. If you could pin down where it’s weeping it would be easier to do whilst in there.

well, the plan is, refit everything together, just fill cooling system up with water, run it for a bit to get it all nice and warm , and let the oil get everywhere, then , remove whats necessary  to have a proper look at the front of the engine , then replace whats needed.
there did seem to be alot of crud round the  solenoid gasket area.
but we shall see

She lives :):):):)
new water pump , new other stuffs,  only filled it with water at the mo as I'm going to run it for a week or 2 to find the mysterious oil leak on the front end ,  then it will be getting stripped down again ,

no leaks, so its all good,
I took it easy on the way home , 20 miles , average 19 mpg
happy days, having a celebratory beer :)

Sounds good.  Don’t leave it too long before adding corrosion inhibitor/coolant though.  You don’t want a rusty engine after all of the work you’ve just done  :)

no I don't plan on it , :)
ive bought all  the upper timing case gaskets, , and the  solenoid ones, cos I was at the dealers,
believe it or not the dealers near  me was ALOT cheaper  than the normal ebay  ones, didn't think of that tbh :)
its going to be run it for a bit , and see which gasket or seal is leaking , then  strip, then rebuild.
THEN....
ill post pics and vids of the xpipe and the zorst., . but it wont be for a few weeks

Must admit I always use the dealer as a reference point, money wise, they do well on parts and if there’s only a few £’s in it I use the dealer. Labour is a whole different ball game.
Looking forward to pics and hope you find the oil leak.
