Just had my steering airbag changed on my 16 year old 4.6. Had to take it back cos the technician hadn’t recorded the serial number. Then I had to take it back again cos the airbag light was on. Not complaining cos at least they did it.

I’m amazed just how far back this recall goes - and it covers millions of cars from a range of manufacturers too.

We have had the steering airbag on the E46 replaced because of damp explosive and the passenger one changed because of metal shrapnel being liberated in the event of a collision. The car is 14 years old.

It is commendable that BMW are still doing the ones that were missed, but disappointing that the dealer down South told me my vehicle didn’t need it. Yet the dealer here told me I needed it without me asking, mearly went in for some parts.
