unkonwn wire

Post by neil50 » Thu May 21, 2020 9:19 am

Calling out to see if anyone knows what the wire is supposed to connect to?

It hangs off one side of the rear heated screen and is the one with the purple connecter.

It seemed to be taped up with "official" tape that holds the other cables in place but I cant see anything for it to connect to and I don't have any error messages.

I'm baffled.

Thanks for any enlightenment.

As it looks to be just brown it’s a ground wire so should be connected to the chassis. Maybe it’s used for an option you don’t have/need?

Thanks for the reply,

I would have thought if it was a standard ground wire for the chassis that it would have a ring on it and not a proper connector.

I thought about options but cant think of anything that would go to the back screen?

BMW also use connector ‘combs’ that use spade connections in order to connect multiple wires to a single point - power or ground. Quite why one is on its own I can’t say unless it’s a test point for dealers - and they don’t normally look like that either. It can’t go very far and I can’t see anything in range so to speak. Could have been for a daughter board or any number of options. If it’s not causing an issue then it isn’t important. Earlier generations had a single loom with everything included even if not used on that specific car.

A few comb examples - https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showpa ... Id=61_1349

Its not causing me a problem and I am not getting any error messages.

I am just a very inquisitive person and don't like not knowing what something is for :) :)
