Car is approaching 90k. In great condition.

Apart from Oil, pollen filter.

Is there anything else that needs changing?

Fuel filter?
Gearbox oil? Gulp it's a big job
Diff oil?

According to BMW the transmission doesn't need servicing. However, ZF who built it disagree. IIRC they say 50k miles/3 years. My local ZF-approved service centre did mine for £500 all in. IMO £133/year is worth it for the peace of mind, when you read the horror stories of neglected (by ZF standards) transmissions having to be rebuilt/replaced, and the cost involved.

Which reminds me, mine will need doing again this summer.

Indeed - the same info I had from ZF. Mine will be booked in soon for this. It has 90k on it.

What surprised me recently was that a BMW indy told me they don't change the oil in the box, as it's not needed.

The local ZF specialist to me said the same. His comment (and it makes sense) is that sometimes it does more harm to change the gearbox than leave it in case it cleans all the galleries and the box promptly fails. His comment was that if the oil looks clean (they draw a sample via the fill plug) then leave it be. If it’s badly discoloured then a rebuild may be the best option anyway as dirty oil ‘tends’ to indicate severe clutch/brake wear within.

Diffs and transfer boxes they’re perfectly happy to do any time.

At 90k miles having a look at the DPF ash figure would be a good idea as that is (in theory) towards its end of life. Many are absolutely fine if longer journeys (remember them?) have been the ‘norm’.

You might have two pollen filters. One in the engine bay and one in the cabin. Can’t remember on that model.
