So after my AA episode the steering arms are replaced and the tracking is done. While in there I had a good look round and find this:

Really annoyed that I need 2 new tyres. Both have suffered severe splits on the inside sidewall. I have tyre monitor fitted and know that none have run with low pressure and nowhere is the inside rim in any way damaged. You can see from the thread that the tyre is wearing evenly across the thread. The tyres have just over 15k on them and I would have reasonably have expected to get to 20k

Could the AA have caused that as well? Did they incorrectly strap the rear as well as the front? The splits look to be the same width approx, hence the ‘I wonder’ question. No marks on the wheels but definitely odd!

That’s a very interesting point. Both rear tyres are split in exactly the same fashion, roughly the same distance apart, what are the chances of that. Be hard pressed to prove anything.
I have ordered a pair of Goodyear F1s from ATS as they have an online deal atm for £464 fitted at your local ATS. If you go direct to your local ATS then it’s £557.

Two tyres splitting like that just doesn’t happen on its own. Or they’ve been knifed!

Is that just the rim protector bar or is canvass showing now under it ?, looks that way on the top one anyway .

Agreed, it would surely be a remarkable coincidence for two tyres to suffer this kind of damage, especially on the inside walls. Being tied down on a flat bed on the other hand 🤔

If you ease the splits a bit with your finger you can see canvas. The more I think about it the more I think it was the tie down straps being excessively tight and subsequent jiggling about on the low loader during the journey.
