Recently joined the fun...

Post by UrbanFlow » Thu Apr 28, 2011 5:34 pm

Hello all, just thought I'd stick my head in and say Hi.
Bought a 2003 silver 3.0i Sport in January and loving it to bits. (Except for the consumption bit - but hey, you wanna play, you got to pay!).

Paid ten and half and got a great car. Sport trim, black leather, dark interior, titanium trim, privacy glass, comms pack, sat nav and just 65,000 miles on the clock. Love it to pieces.

So far all I've done is replaced an indicator bulb after I was quoted £93 inc VAT for the dealer to do it. Oh how I laughed.

Got some plans to refurb the alloys as there are one or two blemishes around the valves, sort out the clunking boot catch problem (anyone else had this?) fit a detachable Westfalia tow bar and maybe upgrade the lights to Angel eyes.

Pics when I work out how to attach them!

Welcome to the forum!

Glad you DIY'd the bulb! That's why we call 'em $tealers!

The boot clunking can be done easy - get some tape (electrical one) and wrap around the lower tailgate catch, where the looped bit of the lock is. That'll be £93 please!

And then pics can be added by following this link:

Tape round the catches you say - sounds like a cheap fix - I'll give it a whirl thanks!
Thanks for the pic tip too. Here's a tester - I'll take some more if the sun comes out today and post some others...

Looks good.

Has someone already 'modded' the front indicator lenses? Aren't they orange on pre-facelift models?

What do you mean by clunking boot catch problem I've just discovered mine doesn't work properly. If I pop it open apparently it's supposed to close itself. Mine doesn't it just keeps trying forever :(

Welcome aboard :)

Re bulb change it can be worthwhile getting headlamp alignment checked after a bulb swap involving headlamp removal to access same.........My drivers side unit was out of alignment despite me carefully marking fastening areas when I changed the indicator bulb.

Hello mate,

I'm pretty sure the indicator lenses in the front lights are standard BMW.
In the US they had complete orange units I think.

Took me ages to work out what the clunking noise was in the boot area - someone on Xoutpost suggested it was the boot catch not locking tight. Some adjust the two rubber stops out a bit to tighten the closure but I just followed Sanj's advice on here and wrapped on loop of standard black electrical tape around the bar in the lower tailgate where the upper tailgate fastens to. Worked a treat!

My tailgate doesn't close itself - I have to slam it like any normal car. Is this right?!
Got me wondering now!

Thanks AW8 - I'll do that - I did mark them and check them against the garage doors - but no doubt they went back in slightly out.

Welcome to the best informed X5 Forum. I'm new too, and finding it great. The boot on my 05 plate sport does close by itself if it's now shut properly? Not sure if this is the part you are talking about or not. You will get any question answered here by the more experienced forum members, I've found them great. How tinted are your windows? As thinking about getting the back windows done. Any idea of cost for this? Hope you enjoy both this site and the X5.
