  After a very long search for some specific 20" winter wheels, the time has come to swap the BMW approved Pirelli winter spec tyres onto them. These are to hand already.

So, i was never really happy with the previous refinish prior to my purchase. They hadnt been refurbished that well, so as part of the tyre swap, I'm having them refurbished properly in powder coat.

The question is simple, what colour? Orbit Grey is the most common, as pictured, but they also came in gloss black. I like the gloss black idea but worry they will show every (inevitable) hairline mark from washing, fine grit gets everywhere.

Wild card is satin black, wilder card is BMW blue, or satin bronze?

Nothing to be sorry about :)

Black looks OK with the main car colour, and at least gloss black is easy to clean. Silver on Silver may clash?

Mine are all default silver as that works with the Vermilion Red on mine. The i4 has diamond cut on gloss black (treated with Metalmate to stop furring - and also means water beads in the same way as waxed panels) but I always worry about kerb rash with diamond cut

I think gloss black looks good with a grey car. That would be my choice

Gloss black is certainly my first choice. I suppose i ll just have to be very careful when they're washed.

Try using wheel woolies - and dry/finish with a micro fibre cloth perhaps? It’s what I do.

They're away already at the refurbishers. Gloss black, a factory option seemed best. The dark chrome, original M5 wheels look? Nice but a bit blingy for me.

Ah I see, I was a bit late replying to the thread, I had gloss black on my e53, its just the brake dust that makes them look dirty after about a week, but easy to clean.

I forgot to update with pictures 😳 Unfortunately the car is now mothballed for winter while i'm abroad.

The wheels in gloss black looked very good and with new tyres are very much fit for purpose. This said, I'm thinking to sell the car and all the accoutrements I've amased next spring. The exorbitant main dealer charges are now unpalatable. I'll keep my old but very worthy Touareg. Its all i need given my usage of any vehicle these days.

But time will tell. I've had lots of highs and lows this year already, doubtless there will be more.
