Car Insurance

A couple of years ago my ins co ( Saga) offered me a deal to fix my premiums for the next 3 years, so in my 3 rd year renewal (May 2024) has just come through and it has gone down !!
2023 -2024 £353-65p inc breakdown cover and 3K miles per annum.
This year 2024-2025 £338-65p inc breakdown cover and 3K miles per annum.
Now I am 81 in May and god knows what next year will be,and my annual mileage over last 3 years has averaged less than 1000 miles per annum.
Any way I am thankful for small mercies.

I've just been speaking to M&S insurance following an online quote of £641. (£750 if paid monthly)

When you get into the nitty gritty details, having declared a modification by way of a wheels change it topped out at £1100. Are the wheels wider? Yes but BMW wheels are always wider on the rear. They didn't know what i was talking about and the more i tried to explain, the sillier it all became.

Its ludicrous that if the car had been built with 20" wheels it would be £641. But because i swapped factory 19s to optional 20s there's this riduclous loading. Even more ironic is that 19" wheels with winter tyres have no bearing at all on a quote.

The NFU don't stress on any of this stuff which is why I've stayed with them for so long. Other than the cost this year, its easy, and theres no surcharge if paying monthly by DD either.

I just tried Saga. No convictions no issues, only the wheels business and under 5k pa mileage

I renewed mine in February at £360 at 5k miles and a whole raft of mods. Up graded brakes/cold air intake/exhaust/wheels/lpg/sound system. Maybe I just got lucky. It was with LV. I’ve been been with then quite a few years but always try elsewhere before renewing. Some of the quotes from elsewhere are eye watering to the point I just couldn’t afford. Probably the tax and insurance costs are what will stop me using it rather than any problems with it. As they rate the value of it at £1500 any accident damage will mean it will be written off.

My x5 is up for renewal soon and my current insurer has sent me a nice letter stating they will no longer cover me or quote again after the policy expires! Getting some OK quotes and many mad ones lol 9k anyone?

Perhaps crazier is windscreen cover isn't even an option on some comprehensive policies :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
