I took the X for MOT on Tuesday, didn’t even get as far as getting it on the ramp. During brake test the pedal hit the floor. The front left braided hose busted. It’s now parked at the MOT station waiting for a new hose to arrive. I have contacted the supplier to complain that although it is 8 years old it replaced a rubber pipe that was 15yo. To be fair he has asked for pics which I will take when they are replacing it. I did point out how lucky I felt that it happened at the station rather than on the way there. This is the best I could get between wheel and arch.

I thought these cars had dual circuit so you should have had sufficient control to stop safely? That was the whole idea behind mandating dual-circuit brakes in the 1970’s.

I’m sure you’re right, the tester didn’t want to press the pedal again to minimise the spillage and just reversed out and let it run into a parking space on the handbrake. Although I’m sure if it had been on the road it would have been a bum clenching moment at least.

Yeah I’m pretty sure that would be a situation I would not wish to experience firsthand either…

I had one of the rear ones fail on the mot brake test about 6 years ago now.
Saturday morning job as i go every Sat to my m8s garage but he didn't have time to do it so i went home with the car.
I had brakes but it is strange driving knowing the pipe is burst lol.
He did it on Monday and did the test so no fail on my record handy.

From my point of view the only annoying thing is having to get it repaired at the station. I would imagine a £100 bill to change and then bleed. I’ve payed £80 for the hose which I think is excessive (may get it back) but I doubt it.

Best place for it to happen I was coming up to a smallish roundabout in a little peugeot 205 with a trailer on many years ago and a cam coming towards me went right with no indicator and caught me off guard ,( there were 2 lanes go straight on and the right rarely used ) I stamped the brake hard and it braked strong initially for about 1 second just enough to not ram the other can then pedal dropped to near floor . You still have some brakes but a lot of pedal travel and only 1 diagonal circuit . The rear steel line burst before the flexi , limped on a bit but came to a steep hill and got recovered for safety.
I cant really tell from the pic but it looks like it has blown of the compression fitting where it is spannered on at the factory ( could be wrong and hard to tell)

I will have a close look when all the bits are off. I’d have been tempted to go back the the BMW rubber but the after market caliper connection is different. If it’s a hose failure it would make me loose faith.

There’s been a right cock up. PB BRAKES sent the specks of the hose to SF Tuning who had them made and actually sent both front hoses so the £80 doesn’t seem so bad. They arrived yesterday (Friday) and I took them over to the garage. Got a call this morning to say they were fitted and the MOT was done. Arranged to pick up at 1 o’clock. On my way there my wife phoned to say a package had arrived with 4 brake hoses. PB had contacted their original suppliers and they have sent a full set. So although I’ve spent £80 unnecessary I still feel like I got a good deal.

Nice bonus but you could sit looking at them for years and years.

Might be an idea to get the others changed too then they may be past their best by now .

I will change the back ones when I get time. They were bought in 2017 so only 8 yo. I’ll put up some pics later of the failed one.

I said I’d put up some pics but I’m not actually sure what I’m seeing. It seem to have failed where it connects to the metal brake pipe. I’m not sure which one of those is the one that failed as both look pretty similar. Perhaps it’s the one with the shorter internal pipe.
