I know I've mentioned this previously, but maybe there are new options?

For as long as i have two BMWs, coding some stuff might be useful and I'm aware of some differences between the X5 & X6. There are both 2009 vintage and built just two months apart, though they have very different specifications.

I don't possess a laptop, I'm restricted to an android tablet or phone

The X5 has the front indicators coded on like USA spec cars. I don't like that so would like to switch them off. I have checked, its not an MOT issue but regardless, I'd prefer to code them off. The OBC menu displays a V (vector?) symbol if i scroll past the mpg etc displays The X6 doesnt have that but does have a display showing how much power is being put to each wheel, i'd like that on the X5 if its possible?

On the X6, I'd like the power mirror's to fold with the remote activation, but assume that can still be overridden by the door switch when inside the car?

There may be hours of tinkering awaiting me, but what device should i buy to initially just deal with one specific item per car?

It really depends upon how confident you are with computer stuff. In all cases you’ll need a dongle that connects to the ODB port (either Bluetooth or WiFi)

I use Carly and their own dongle. The ‘package’ including the adapter is about £65 with an annual licence fee. It works in Apple & Android devices.

Other options are BimmerCode (there are two add on products Bimmer Link and eFlow for this as well, however the eFlow one is for EVs so you won’t need that), or the newer BimmerUtility.

All need a dongle and all can be run from either Apple or Android devices. You’re probably looking at around £64 - £100 for them depending upon what dongle you buy (they do recommend or may provide). Some are priced in USD.

All can be looked at on line before you decide.

Bimmercode is a one off payment same as bimmerlink for diagnostics and i find both work well.

Thanks for that. I followed the link to Amazon, but the three devices they show all say fault code reading, but i only really want to make some coding changes.

Showing my total ignorance of this subject will any of these devices do that?

With that adapter you can use Bimmercode the BLE 4.0 that is.
It will also work with diagnostic App's.

I think I must be hard of learning. I don't understand any of this to date.
I think ill just leave things alone for safety sake

Look for videos on "Bimmercode".
Easy to use and gives you a long list of options you can change by just ticking a box then pressing "ode".
