20" tyres - any special deals on at present?

I went off to finally change my winter wheels over this morning (I know I know a bit later than I would have liked) :D and as I was packing the huge rears into the car, I saw rather too much wear on the inside of one of them, so packed them away again  and am looking for new tyres at a decent price. The fronts are ok still, but I may just change all four. I do not want to spend £1500+ on Diamaris, nor do I want El Cheapos but it would be nice to find something inbetween......I quite like the look of the Vredestein Sessanta and Toyo Proxes seem to have been the choice of many on here....... ideas??? Any special deals on any where???

Vreds are your summer tyres not all-season. The Toyos are tho, hence the tyre of choice.

£650 or less is a stonking deal - at the mo Rusty Nail has had the best deal, drop him a PM if you like.

The wear will need addressing too, full KDS or equivalent alignment afterwards too...

You beat me to it Sanj.
I was due to get the alignment done, but couldn't afford the additional 2nd wait ( either in time or money as the wife was shopping whilst I had the tyres fitted). I'm not too bothered at the mo as the wear looked pretty even on the rears just the usual centre wear on the Diamara's and the fronts were ok, so I will get it looked at in the near distant future.

Hope your search goes well Condor, pm if you would like additional info.

I took my winters off a couple of weeks ago. When I'd changed them in December, I had noticed that the summer rears (Bridgestone Duellers) had both worn badly on the inner shoulders and one had a nail in it. On the basis I'd had 20k+ from them and I wanted to match-up to my fronts, I went for Vredestein Sessanta SUVs on the rears too.
Although I had good wear with Diamaris (45k) on my old diesel on 19s, I was never convinced that they were as good on 20s. Personal view but ride was just too harsh and they tramlined badly. I spent some time researching and have ended up with the Vreds. Reasons -
1. Have been very impressed with their winter tyres.
2. They seem to win plenty of awards in various tyre classes and I liked the look/approach of their website. Good reviews of the Sessanta SUV particularly on US websites.
3. They seem to offer me the right price/performance mix and I wanted a "softer" tyre than the Diamaris.
4. As it happens, they look good with their slightly odd directional but not assymetric tread (think that is right way round).
I was going to order from Camskill but didn't have them in stock until recently priced around £190 a go (315/35 R20). However, just checked and they seem to have vanished altogether!
I did a bit of internet searching as the tyres are hard to find and ended up with a firm called Longbridge Tyres in Birmingham. To take off winters and put on summers (brought in back of car) and replace the two rears with new Sessanta SUV, all balanced and tracked, cost me £445.
Tyre bloke also recommended Toyo Proxes (I have them on my Z1) which were a bit cheaper. He also made the point that inner shoulder wear is common with 20 inch rears on X5 - something to do with negative camber.
The only concern I had was that with a softer tyre, there might be excessive wear but no probs so far on the fronts.
Delighted with them so far.

At the moment I've got the 18" Vredestein Wintracs on :D so would be pleased to find new all season or summer tyres at the earliest opportunity for my 20" wheels so my precious winter rubber doesn't melt away in the soaring temps!!

The 20" rears are Bridgestone Duellers- the inner wear isn't bad, but its certainly not evenly spread across the tyre, although I thought this was a foible of the 4.8 tracking and something one just lives with, with an X5. The tyres are also showing age deterioration with a bit of cracking here and there, so probably a good time to replace. I was initially slightly annoyed as they hadn't been on long when I put the winters on - bought car 31 July 2010 and changed to winters sometime late October - did about 5000 miles in that time as was travelling to contract employment at the time - and I thought BMW should have had tyres with more life in them on their AUC. I did check at the time but of course the deep inner is really difficult to see unless on a ramp, given those wide skates!!! Not sure if the MOT Guarantee for BMW AUC covers tyres.....if so I should quickly swop them over the day it goes in!! But then they'd only change one, if they did, and it would be with the cheapest possible yukky tyre, so probably not a good idea......

Toyos are in abundance online, but I'd love to hear of a good deal anywhere if anyone wants to drop me a PM  Vredestein likewise :driving:

Tyres will most definitely not be covered on your MOT Guarantee unfortunately... however, if you can prove an alignment issue due to excessive wear on one side and this not being your fault, you may get them to do a Wheel Alignment gratis.

I'm going for Toyo Proxes when I get home. My last Diamaris on the rears haven't lasted at all and I have hardly done any mileage with working abroad! I think it is just a factor of the 20" Foot Wide wheels on the rear that they won't last as the fronts have never needed changing since I got the car in March 2009... and they only had 6mm then.

£650 - £700 is the area I am aiming at for the tyres...

Turks.

Certainly worth giving Phil a call at Longbridge Tyres (just off the M5/M42 junction) if you're not too far from Birmingham- 0121 457 7582
Apparently Vredestein are not trying too hard in UK at the moment so tyres are difficult to find. He can give you quotes for both to get started.
I found them at least 20% cheaper than anything I could find in London.

Thanks for the help everyone, am not too far from Birminingham so will give them a call as well. Tyremen have the Sessantas but they are very pricey - hoping to find a better deal somewhere or perhaps just go for the Toyos.
