Mad insurance variables!!

My 4.8is insurance needs renewing by 31 July......so did the usual checks today and nearly collapsed when a quote came back for over £900!!!!!   After a bit of huffing I got it down to £750 but with a huge excess of £750, or £825 with an excess of £500 - still sounded crazy to me, I'm not a male under 25 with 9 points on my licence and no no claims  so I did a bit more digging. Thought a toy meerkat might be nice if I had to spend a lot of money, but comparethemarket.com couldn't even give me a quote........

Then I tried, wait for it!!!! SAGA!!!!  As we both fit neatly in the, ahem, correct age category I thought I'd give it a go.......

RESULT!!! £450 less a further £20 for getting a home insurance quote from them = £430. Excess £300.

Whew. So its Saga for us this year then.....wonder how many 4.8's they have insured with them    rather than the usual lineup of Nissan Micras , Notes, Fiat Multiplas etc etc

Nice one,i didnt really think you were that old!!

Chuffed you got covered for that price,i am only 37 so no chance of saving money then!

You always have to shop around nowadays as you say, its crazy what premiums you have to pay for a nice motor.

Great result.

I agree there should be some benefits to getting older & pleased you took the time to shop around, rather than get ripped off by the insurance companies!

Its a great price you have got for a group 20 vehicle...i am wishing the years away now!!!!

AAANNNNNDDDDD, I was toying with the idea of CF wrap but got slapped by SB! So yes, still stuck with luxurious walnut trim - I'm convinced! :?

Thanks Condor... I can't wait for my renewal now in September! :tumbleweed:

I'm 27 so don't stand much chance this year! Must have gone up a hell of a lot? I only paid about £750 last year with my missus on it too. Should I be expecting over a grand this year?

Anyway, glad you managed to get it for a reasonable price

Turks, most policies across the board have apparently gone up by upwards of 40%, so you can expect a mega quote if you're 27........well at least you're not under 25, it would then have been well in the 1000's!!!! My usual brokers have been fantastic for years and have undercut everyone, but not on this occasion. Remind me closer to the time and I'll send you their phone number - they have usually managed far better prices than price comparison sites and its worth a phone call just to check what they can offer. Its crazy isn't it. Even worse than Sanj's walnut trim :)

I'm 32 and my reneval for my 4.6 was 650 quid with $50 deductible which is about 35 quid for excess. I have 4 cars and a house insured under this policy so i think it is a reasonable price. Since i don't owe anything on vehicles it is less stressful to worry about payments
