Hi Guys, I will post in newbies section in a minute, but in the meantime I am looking for some advice on anything in particular to look for in higher mileage X5's. I'm looking for a 15 grand X5 but most of the nice spec ones have 60k+. Apart from tyres, blown turbo's, is there anything in particular i should be looking for?
Thanks
Finnie

I would consider 100+ high, not really 60. Have a look at aw8 buying guide, should give you an idea.

Bought mine at 74,000miles 2 years ago. No problems as of yet. Checked the history with BMW and it had a new turbo under warranty at 60,000 so quite happy.
If looked after the diesels go on forever
good luck
Steve

I agree with pvr 60k isn't high for a 15k car if anything it's low.I sold my previous x5 at 98k and never had any big issues with that one just the run of the mill maintenance issues. It's not the mileage thats the problem it's how well the car has been looked after

...ohhh and welcome btw Finnie

At circa 60k some sell to avoid payiong for the first major service, (Insp 2), typically due at around that mileage. Some owners may have had the Insp 2 done but HAVE NOT had recommeded work done as highlighted/found in the Insp 2 others will sell shortly before Insp 2. ....................Either way buyers are potentially vulnerable from prior owners passing on forthcoming or overdue work.
I bought mine 3k miles before Insp 2 was due so not saying to avoid, just bear in mind full service history really means full Inspection history. It is not a testament to all recommended work having been done.

Bought mine two months ago with 90k, seems perfect to me! Runs very well and only cost 10500 for full spec 4.6is!

Don't think mileage should be an issue as long as the car has been looked after. All my BMW's have done around 90 - 130 k, current one having done 112,000 but fully checked history, made sure it had it's inspection 2 done and lovin it.

mines 190k and runs like a dream.....i have had it since 20k mind and is fully stamped by main and indy dealer......had the usual re alienment on the back done as it scrubed the inner walls of the back tyres out but apart from that its a perfect 4.6is...good luck

I assume its a 3.0d ?
I've got an E39 with same engine , was re-mapped from new to 238PS and now covered
225,000kms , and it's still sweet as a nut .
The problem with blown turbo's is that owners forget to let the engine idle for a couple of
minutes after a long/fast/hard journey , and just switch straight off , so the turbo is
starved of oil on the bearings and eventually they blow .

As per my other post i have bought a 54 plate 79500 mile sterling grey 3.0d. Delighted with it and it pulls like a train, though not as well as the E60 M5 it is replacing! Needs must though.
Only problem is a brake vibration but I think that is similar to what has been mentioned in the problems section so that will be the first port of call, when i get a chance
Photo's to appear tomorrow, just got home in the dark so will wash and photo it tomorrow
