Can you post pics? Also BE CAREFUL - if you have Xenons then you have very high voltage there, You should have some stickers advising the same.

When you swicth the lightson do they look like they flash and then become brighter? And do they move? Down first and then up a bit?

If so, you have Xenons and should have no reason to change them...

I must admit the lights do seem very bright was only gonna change cause on my 330d the same bulbs made alot of difference

Attaching piccies is done following this ere guide, courtesy of you know who.....

You very definitely have Xenons so be careful of those starter packs. 25kV hurts......a lot......and can kill!

Don't go too far into the blue end of the spectrum as the human eye is less sensitive to blue light and if you go from the standard 4,300K to the 'very' blue 8,000K you will lose 30% light output for the same power draw. 6,000K would be the highest sensible limit for non-show use. I think the lamps for the E53 are Xenon H2S HID type if memory serves.

The E70/71 use a different lamp type. It should be either a D2S, or D2R. Most likely the 'S' version which is for projector lamps rather than reflector lamps which use the 'R' type. Both have a square block at the base of the lamp itself.

One other tip - don't touch the glass with bare fingers, it causes premature failure of the actual glass.

You have Xenons, don't look to change them!

If your able to manually adjust the aim of the headlight then you do not have xenons as they have automatic vertical control which I believe is the law if xenon are fitted in the UK.

Hope this helps :)

I have xenons on dip and have uprated and fitted a kit to the main beams as well, also changed the dip to 6000k bulbs.
The difference at night is amazing, it's like daylight at night.

That was a mod I was planning for my E53, but SWMBO upped and insisted we sold it

The X6 could do with it as the inner headlights aren't lamps but holders for the angel eyes. I would like to have proper high beams but that's not possible.

The X6 LCI (due early 2012) lights might be twins again, but they probably won't be interchangeable :x (and will need a small mortgage to buy!). Rumour is that tbey're full LED rather than HID.

I have xenons too and I changed the angel eye bulbs to led from eBay and the high beam bulbs to Philips diamond vision 5000k. All the lights look the same white colour now... I reckon 5000k is the cleanest light, in my opinion anyway

Is it APITA upgrading the angel eyes or the high beam bulbs on a 2005 3.0d as I'm worst than useless at DIY ?

No - real easy, undo the cap. And then just twist off (after getting the connector off). No more than 5 mins each side.

You have the same setup as me - I have the OEM Xenons in mine and still no issue to change the angel eyes.

eBay should be your best bet!

The angel eye bulbs are very simple and straight forward. If you fancy changing the xenon bulb to a higher 'k' then it's headlights out (so bumper off).
