Not fitted one in an X, but I did fit one in a previous vehicle.
Best advice I can give is to make sure you have something solid to fix it to and not to just screw it to the headlining. One option is to glue/silicone some suitably shaped wood to the roof and affix to that. Also, install a separately switched power feed if you are using any powered tv antenna or VHF modulators so as you don't inadvertently flatten your battery.
HTH, and as Sanj put before, loads of pics will always help others.
Good luck with the install.

been lookin into this and ideally it would go where the roof rear light is mounted but this incorporates the alarm ultrasonics, has anyone fitted a roof mount system to an x5?

I bought the pucka BMW system and then found the roof moulding was not available any more, so £500 up the spout.
Have a look at ''outpost'' you will see what I mean in how to's.

I took the car round to the local ICE installers yesterday for them to have a look, they checked with their suppliers to see if there was an after market kit to fit a dvd player to an X5 which there isnt.So the car was booked in to go into their workshop on Tuesday for them to have a look at possibly mounting the DVD in front of the light unit.
This would have placed it a little too far forward so today I have moved the light unit forwards by approx 7 or 8 inches which will now allow them to mount the DVD player in its place which should be just about right. They will need to fab up a bracket I would think.
Moving the light unit wasnt too difficult really just common sense,a bit of patience and plenty of measuring up before cutting, I will let you know how I get on on Tuesday.

That takes some serious bottle to do. No going back now.
Of course I don't have the bottle!

haha yes your right, ideally I would have just replaced the light unit but I didnt want to lose the ultrasonics for the alarm so I had to reposition it.I was going to move it backwards but the rooflining gets very thick there with sound deadening material so it would have been more difficult.I am a serial modder so I am used to stepping into the unknown, they say measure twice cut once,I usually measure at least half a dozen times before I am happy!Just need the ICE boys now to be a bit creative with mounting it
