what colour is my car?!

My 2004 E53 X5 is what i would call 'metallic grey'. It's a very popular colour across variety of BMW models and indeed Aston martin have a very similar colour
But the registration document simply states 'grey' - is 'grey' the official name for the colour?

So is the registration document incorrect then? Should it be changed or do they all say 'grey'?

Grey is the main colour, they don't care about the rest.
My Highland Green is just Green, my Silver Grey is just Grey, my Paprika Red is just Red etc

If you want to be 100% sure check the plate under the bonnet on the left inner wing it gives you all the weights and the colour.
