Tyre Swap - Prioritise Tread for Front or Rear??

Hi all.

About to put 2 brand new and 2 used (5mm tread) Conti Contacts on mine (295/40/20) and want to know for winter driving whether I would be better of putting the new rubber (front or rear?)

I am not expecting miracles from these in ice and snow but can't justify buying winter rubber (waaaay too expensive for limited use).

Just want to give myself the best chance of some traction when it does get slippery!

Thanks

Are your wheels not staggered sizes then and therefore you have no choice in the matter?

Nope. Changed the wheels for aftermarkets and all 4 run 295/40/20

Anyone?
Should I assume prioritise rear as thats where most of the drive is generated?

Best tread on the front. Stopping is more important than going ;)

Out of interest, how much are you paying for 2 part worn 20's?

I'm thinking of going this route myself, I need 2 rears :)
