OOPS..there goes the wing mirror

well this morning after dropping off my daughter to school , a lady with a ISUZU SUV decided to center the road and hit my off side mirror with hers. result: her mirror shattered and a scratch on her casing and my mirror in pieces. luckily the other person was also military and carry the same insurance company as i do in states which made the process easier. i took a few pics of the mirrors just in case and called the insurance company when i got home about 25 mins after the accident. i gave them both of our info and they put me thru a body shop which is about 6 miles away from me. they said they can come out and take a look at my car in 20 mins. i said ok and they came and took some more pics of the mirror. luckily only thing that is broken is the wing mirror itself no damages to the door or anything. with my deductible i am going to pay 50 quid for a whole new wing mirror. they will put the order thru BMW dealership today and hope to get everything fixed by friday. on the other hand when my wife had an accident back in sept with her A class the other party had a british insurance and i still have yet to hear from them about the claim outcome. i gave up on calling them and being put on hold for 45 mins for them to tell me they are still working on it. that's with the fault being on the other party %100. i already fixed up the merc Aclass and driving it. it only cost 200 quid so they can shove that 200 quid somewhere when they decide to reimburse us.

That was my thought too. Maybe with States insurance you still have to pay an excess or something.

At least it is not like it is in the UK that even as a non fault, your next year's premium would have gone up.

i am safe on the increase. even i am at fault i have a accident forgiveness to guarantee against any increase. in this case i am pretty sure i will get the £50 back in a few weeks. i am wondering what the bill will come out to in total for this repair. i am guessing around £600 for a new mirror assembly and the paint job on the cover! any ideas?

i wish i could help. i actually asked before but the insurance company said they only insure NATO military assigned in UK. so no help on the insurance but if you need parts let me know i'll do my best to get what you need from stateside.

i just received a phone call about the pricing on the mirror. the complete assembly minus the paint job is 940 quid and another 260 quid for labour for painting and replacing...so 1200 gbp for the whole job. the mirror comes with a warranty as long as i own the car.

£1200 for a mirror replacement. Wow, the mirror is now worth a large precentage of the total value of the car :D

One of my mirrors has cracks in it so hopefully that will put them off, maybe I should put cracks in the other one as a cheap antitheft deterrent

Since it's the actual mirror that is cracked it would have to be some amazing paint ;)
