2nd FSR failure

As title. I swapped out the original faulty item about 2 years ago but last week had noticed a faint tell tale fan noise when ignition off.
Got in car today after a cold night & car would not turn over. Took the Z3 to work instead today........just as well no snow on ground overnight.
Just finished diagnosis & confirmed FSR failure by faint fan noise when ignition off which stopped as soon as I pulled fuse 48 for the A/C.
Not looking forward to doing this agin as it's a fiddly job to do due to acccess & the fact it's location makes swapping easier for LHD cars.
New part ordered from Danny at bmwpartsonline - not many suppliers folk can speak to on a Sunday afternoon. New FSR should be here by Tuesday lunchtime..........& he guarantees this Meyle part for 2 yrs.
Meanwhile the CTek is working it's magic on cold temp setting as I tyoe this.......... Must remeber to put fuse back in before morning & take it out when I get to work if I take the X5.

That's not good. I thought the later version was brought in specifically to stop the fault that occurs so regularly on the early version?

Annoying, especially with the snow around the Z3 is not the best tool.

Yes a little annoying.
I was told that design had changed when I bought last FSR. Last night I checked receipt and was actually bought in 2008 so no warranty left/remaining.
Apparently Meyle give 2 yrs on their FSR's. Meyle rumoured to make the units for BMW but not 100% on this.
One ebay seller claims Meyle FSR has been redesigned multiple times to reduce failure frequency.
It would be great if trhere was a one stop database whereby owners can cross reference BMW part numbers against made by suppliers for BMW.
My advice to all E53 owners this winter - check your FSR for signs of failure..........
1. Start car move it in gear then to park/neutral.
2. Switch off engine and remove key.
3. Press key fob lock button twice in rapid succession to to initiate system shut down & to deactivate alarm.
3. Wait, (16 mins or so), until amber lamp on auto shift &/or green light on child locks extinquish.
4. Then listen for fan noise presence - if present pull fuse 48 to see if fan noise stops.
5. If interior fan still running prior to fuse pull then chances are you have a bad FSR.
A lethargic of labouted fan in normal use can point towards same problem.
Just to add there can be other causes of current drain.

I hope it never fails on the later X5/6. That dash looks a lot harder to take apart!

Now X5Sport, you know full well that
1. FSR's will not fail within warranty
2. BMW has fixed all issues with FSR's
3. Should an FSR fail, it will be easily locatable and simple to disconnect and replace and all for a minimal cost

I don't think I have the FSR issue but when I unlock and open the car, the computer splash screen comes on and I can hear a small fan type noise from that area. Is that just a fan in the computer running?

bargain Bucket - Re your last post.............Please read my last post again.
If you spent too long listening to loud music when younger then get someone with younger/better hearing to assist in checking.
