hi all, drove down from sheffield to coventry his week to take a look at a x5 diesel manual full sh etc 54 plate at a dealers .the car looked great everthing worked ok went on a test drive .thats when the probs started .as soon i put my foot down smoke bellowed out and was impossible to see the cars behind me . once back at the show room i checked the sh in the bmw service book .the first stamp was at 72000 then 84000 .before i went i had contacted bmw and they had given the full sh mileage and dates .but the dealer had not got any of this but claimed in the advert fsh .i was then offered 500 of the screen price and then put a warrenty in my name and then the dealer would get the x5 sorted as a warrenty claim .what do you all think also asked to leave 200 deposit to get it sorted kev

I think from the tone of your post that you know the answer already. If the dealer can't be bothered getting the car properly prepared for sale then who knows what else will be wrong. £200 deposit before he sorts it is a joke. Walk away, there's plenty of decent cars out there.

If you are not happy with it now you probably never will be. Walk away and just wait for the right one.

Smoke is simply a change to the new type vortex breather. I had exactly the same on my test drive and all gone with a £45 breather upgrade.
You have BMW's own info of a complete service history so just get a new service book and send it to each dealer for completion.
As for the dealer. Well they're pretty much all the same. Trying to do as little as possible for as much profit as possible. The problem is they have 90% of the cars in the UK. Private sellers have had anough of ebay to55ers and Nigerian Scammers and will now live with the £2k to £3k hit they take by going through a dealer when selling a car. I'm looking to change my E61 535D M Sport for another facelift diesel X5 and it looks like I will have to go through a dealer.
Good luck with your search but if you think this is the right car then no reason why you shouldn't go for it. Don't hand over any cash though until eveything is sorted.
