Hi all
Just wondered if anyone has anything to offer regarding an iPhone 4 fitted into the standard armrest bit that looks like it takes an old Nokia or something. Car has Bluetooth and phone synced etc but quite like the idea if having it stored and charging. It's a 05 E53 I know I need the snap in adapter but think I might need the bit the snap in goes into and someone said I may need a wiring bit too. Any help as usual much appreciated

Would have thought you just need the snap in adapter for the iPhone as you already have the wiring, etc as the eject box section will already be there.

May need a different eject box too. I had an iPhone 3G/3GS snap in adapter and compatible eject box. When I got the iPhone 4 snap in I had to modify the eject box to fit.

Dirtymonkey I looked at your writeup and think I might do the intravee thing. If possible could you tell me what I need to get I.e. Which cables etc then if I get the iPhone snapin do I have to connect the intravee cable to the dock via ideally an extension or do I have to merge two leads to the snapin?
Sorry to sound dense your writeup was excellent and I'm clear on most of it, also is anything different if I ave the BMW/iPod lead in the glovebox with no cd changer

I took the snap in adapter to bits, removed all the gubbins inside, split the plastic that holds the male iPod/iPhone dock connector (you will need to keep them plastic bits).
I got a 30pin iPod extension cable off eBay and split the plastic off the male end and then glued the snap in adapters plastics to it that you saved earlier. That then goes back into the snap in adapter when you put it back together. Cable needs to run I side the snap in the same way the original cables did or it won't sit down. The big hole in mine is where I ran it through first time before I realised, luckily it can't be seen.
Once snap in is back together it's just a case of connecting the intravee lead to a 12v to 5v adapter( so your iPhone will charge) and then that adapter to extension lead which is now your snap in adapter.
You'll also need to strip the eject box and take the gubbins out of that too.
I posted up the part numbers of my eject box and snap in adapter somewhere. Eject box comes out really easy, couple of plastic card each side at the back end of it and it pops out, dont use your credits cards incase you break them though.

Dunno about the lead in the glove box, I assume this is connected into the back of the screen. If there is no cd changer in the boot the wiring should still be there anyway. If you have a working iPod lead in glove box why not try and get that to the centre consol?

Dm if I pull the glovebox lead back I will only have the 5 playlists. I'm presuming intravee shows track info etc and other extras available. Not sure if I should do reverse camera too as doesn't that need to be run under carpet to front too

Im trying to do this now and have the iphone snapin apart and have stripped an iphone extension lead, bits everywhere and quite concerned its never going to go back together. Do I need to break the plastic around the dock connector in the snapin or does it come apart? I have got the springs off and am left with a small bit of black plastic with ribbon cable out the bottom and male connector out the top.... help

You might need to send me a couple of pics.... I'm at work till late and can't remember off the top of my head.
I think the black surround of male connector originally in the snap in adapter splits in half... Be careful as you'll need to glue them bits of plastic back onto the extended lead you butchered.
Make sure you get the orientation right

I do appreciate the help, the photos show the extension lead stripped down and the bit I have out of the snapin in 1 photo and the 2 others are just the snapin adapter. I cant see where to go now to get the metal connector out and the other one in and thought you wouldnt mind me asking before i do something irreversible. Sorry about photo quality!
thanks yet again

On the second pic... Isn't very clear, but are there 2 small screws there somewhere? It does split into two pieces and from memory you have to break a small amount of plastic off to do that. You will be glueing it all back together so it looks the same now only with the extension lead in place.

yes there WAS two srews in that bit. I cant see a place where two halves of plastic join to split it so I guess ill just have two cut through two sensible bits with a knife
