Getting history for the X

Anyone done it or know the best way to get any history about my X? I have the stamped up book but not 1 receipt for anything. I always keep receipts in a folder and pass it on if I sell a car but this one has nothing and it would be nice to know what's been done.
It's one previous owner so should be easier, is it something my local dealer could help with or would it be rude (or stalkerish) to contact the previous owner with a polite letter saying it's fine to ignore the request. Any suggestions, ideas or comments both useful or just entertaining most welcome

bmw dealerships are not nationally linked. if you visit a dealership and give them the names of the bmw dealerships stamped the book than they can contact them and fax the receipts. or you can make the call yourself ask for them as a new owner of the vehicle.

Unless (as in my case) the dealership has since been taken over. My X had an amount of work done by Scothall in Leeds but that branch has now been taken over by Stratstones and they have no access to the Scothall records

I phoned another Scothall branch to see if they had access but they couldn't have been less helpful.

I hit the same problem getting some history for my X5 when I wanted copies of all the warranty work sheets but the Dealer had been taken over - twice - and no previous records were available. When I sold the car to a BMW Dealer as part of buying the Mini, they didn't want any documentation apart from the V5C. I've still got some of it but have never heard from the new owner.
BMW GB may be able to help, but they will charge you! New owners used to be able to get info via a premium rate 09xxx phone number. Don't know if they still offer that though.
