Is this oil suitable for 2004 4.4 ?

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... yId_165581

If so, looks good value.

I see it mentions that it is BMW LL-98 LL-01 certified but is that the correct spec?

Don`t you dare put that in the X5
Castrol edge 0W30 is the oil with LL04 spec but more important is the ACAE A3 or C3 and API SM spec
0W30 is what dealers use for service .
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... zone=PDPz1

A good read here http://www.bmwland.co.uk/forums/viewtop ... 17&t=51135

A good deal here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-716-castrol ... e-oil.aspx This seems to be the latest and greatest product from Castrol cheaper and better than Halfords AND you get 1 litre extra free
You can ask any questions about the oil on the opie website .

Edit : I just read specs on Magnatec on opie website and they confirm suitability but I would not use it http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-69393-castr ... e-oil.aspx

Thanks for very interesting and comprehensive reply. I did notice that the oil you linked to that dealers
Use (on halfords website) is LL01 but not LL04?

This is the version a cross check via the Castrol Edge site goes to......

Shop

Link to Castrol Edge site (which interestingly gives Magnatec 0W-40 C3 as the option to Edge).

Halfords are listing Castrol edge sport as compatible when using vehicle search function and it`s only £40.99 for 4 litres meeting the higher specs of B3 and C3
http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... L+SYN#tab2

If i was tempted to use magnatec then it would need to be changed more often or I would use it fresh if the car was to be parked up for a long time
The Castrol Edge FST on opie site says it can go 30000 ( thirty thousand ) miles between changes .
I have heard it said that LL01 is better than LL04 . LL98 was intended for 10 000 mile change . LL01 for 10 to 15 000 miles . LL04 was another development I cant remember at the moment .
I have also heard it said that LL spec is meaningless regarding specs as it just means long life oil for 2 year changes .
The API SL or SM or SN is the important spec as is ACAE A3 or B3 or C3 spec . This is what you want to see on a bottle of oil .

Euro car parts are now doing 4 litres of the Castrol 5w-30 edge (LL04)for 26.99 using discount code "easter25". Not a bad price, perhaps only bettered in Costco.

Thanks for all the info.
