Dealer only item, but not terribly expensive. My paperwork went with the car, but I think it was about £30.
BMW said they fitted the modified (vortex) type from mid 2004, but my Dec 2004 and a number of 2005 owners have reported finding the earlier foam version. My Dealer told me I should have the later one too, but nope, twas foam! There is no way I know of to check it without disassembly unfortunately...
Some dealers will do a sale or return if you talk nicely to them.....

Check
this thread.
Assembly is both top and bottom piece at £40.
Just top piece is £18.
The top piece is the bit that can be foam or newly designed vortex. But new design top will not fit old design bottom piece. You have to get the whole assembly. I was told my 04 did not have the old design, it did...
Get them from dealer only and on return option, I did.

You are most entirely welcome. I also did it with the help of the membership...
Interesting that yours is yet another one that
should have the later type but didn't. I don't think they ever get changed, and a bunged up one can cause serious issues if ignored.
