Hi guys, I bought an E53 with an intermittent passenger front door handle not always opening from the outside. Took it apart and noticed the carrier behind the handle had been replaced once before. Put it all back together as it looked fine but still with the same issue. I have heard that sometimes there is some play in the actual link between where the cable attaches and the lock mechanism in the side of the door. Is this true? I reassembled the door before hearing about this, didn't know if it was worth replacing the lock but not been  able to see one on ebay, only the carriers seem to be on there.

I had a problem like that and it turned out to be the bowden cable starting to fray and not letting the mec go back into place.

Prices of the genuine BMW carrier still rising...

Even with a 5% discount, I still got charged £100.37 by my local dealer today.

That said, the original has lasted 90k miles, so if it lasts as well as that, it’s money well spent over a pattern part.

Thanks to all for the ‘how to’ - something for me to tackle at the weekend :(

My Driver's side door carrier has gone. Its a Miele one I put in about 2-3 yrs ago. Its was never as smooth when opening the door so not sure if it's just a weak product or I fitted it wrong.

So question is should I stomp up for the bmw part which probably about £120 or just try my luck with a febi brand which is £35?

Put a Miele one on my e53 not long after i got it late 2016 and it is still smooth.
I am a bit more careful opening the doors than i was when i first got the car i remember to lift and pull and not just pull.

Door Handle Fix (E53)

I have already changed a Miele twice, so will take a punt on the febi. What I did notice was that most of the grease had dried out resulting in a lot of friction on the long pin that goes through the whole unit. In fact the pin had backed itself almost out from one side. Any idea best grease to get?
