Drivers handle went in the week.  Broken in exactly the same place as the one at the start of this thread.  Replaced with cheap ebay carrier.  Not quite perfect (.25mm gap between the front rubber and handle) but did the job.  Given the car will probably be replaced within the next 12 months it wasn't worth paying 3x more for an official part.

Try not to bend the wire connecting the lock mechanism to the lock knob while taking the old carrier out and getting the new one in otherwise the knob won't fully pop back down when you lock the car.  Learned this the hard way and had to take the door card off again to correct it.

Bah...I have just joined the 'broken drivers door handle club'!  >:(
Plenty of info on here and a cracking video I found on YouTube for the replacement.

Made good use of my time today and fixed my door handle. Bought a genuine BMW unit off of eBay for £75 delivered. Started at 0930hrs...took my time (couple of tea breaks as well) and all wrapped up by midday. Happy days! That Youtube video link i posted above was a life saver!
Pretty simple job if you do your homework!  Trickiest bit was manoeuvring the new part in place.  :)

The part had broken in the usual suspect place.

Well done....

In these modern "blame" days wouldn't the evidence that these almost always fail in the same place put BMW in some sort legal or moral place having designed a sub standard part....or are we in "lifetime" mode

Doing mine tonight with a cable tie as it is free!  If not I will cry and buy a new one!

Recently just changed a CV joint!  Why is when you fix something another thing breaks?

My door handle broke couple weeks ago, bought BMW part, You Tube video detailing it was fantastic.

2 hours for a novice........4 hours later.....grrrrrr

I couldn’t get the Key part of the door handle to meet the screw from the edge of the door.

Took it apart 3/4 times and back on.  What i didn’t realise is that the whole mechanism his the smallest lip that needs to protrude on the left of the space where the door handle goes.  Once i did that, done!!!!!!
